The restrooms on the second floor are not the cleanest.
As far as the YMCA goes, this is one of the newest and nicest in the area. With large lap and rec pools, there's room for just about everyone.
This is a great building with quite of bit of exercise equipment. They have a large pool with a diving board and a high diving board. They have lots of treadmills and bikes and offer lots of classes. They also have an adequate amount of weight lifting equipment (although not a ton). For parents, they offer free child care services while you work out.
I agree with the statements. Here is the problem. There is a sign by the water fountains on the second floor that basically says limit cardio to 30 minutes at peak time frames. The YMCA does not enforce it so why have a sign? So from about 5 - 6: 30 during the week its impossible to get a treadmill. Also the evening spin classes have been reduced to two nights per week. People will put towels on the bikes for their friends and yet those friends show up late. Those of us who show up about 10 minutes BEFORE class, don't get in but those who show up late with a "reserved" bike….. It should be first come, first serve, no reservations.
There are numerous free classes for the grown ups included with membership from yoga to kickboxing, weight training, Pilates, spin, anything you can think of! Multiple racquet ball courts, a track, a court gym with drop in hours for pick up games and plenty of exercise equipment and weights makes this a top of the line gym with the added focus on the family.
This Y is amazing for families. I haven't been able to go to the gym since having children due to not having child care or child care being to expensive. The family center here offers kids programming with arts, Spanish lessons, gymnastics, and other organized activites. Not just kids running around all over the place in a daycare which makes me feel excited to bring my kids. There are also countless preschool lessons, swim lessons, a warm pool with slide, water fountain and zero entry.
So excited to be a member!
It also takes the Waukee Y more than usual to get the broke equipment fixed.
Nice new facility. Very pleasant people. A nice place to work out, hang out, etc.
